More than 21 U.S. House members signed the bill to cancel ELD (electronic logging device) mandate by two years. Nevertheless, it should be noted that currently, the Congress is busy with sorting out larger reforms that is why the bill cannot become the law.

The only opportunity that the bill will become a law would be to include it as part of a larger bill like Department of Transportation appropriations bills of 2018. That being said policymakers are unenthusiastic to include the legislation into the DOT bills.

Furthermore, the bill that was passed by the Senate does not have provisions concerning the cancellation of the ELD mandate as the Congress proposed.

It is especially noteworthy that the American Trucking Association (ATA) strongly opposed efforts to cancel the bill. ATA claims that the ELD is proved to improve safety as well as efficiency.
The OOIDA (Owner Operator Independent Drivers Association) is included in stalling the mandate. It is calling upon truck drivers and those who are in opposition to support the bill canceling it.
