ALAMOGODO, New Mexico — Over $1 million worth of heroin was seized from a sedan being hauled across the Mexican border by a semi-truck late last week.
The drugs were discovered on June 21st at the New Mexico Immigration checkpoint in Alamogordo, New Mexico.
According to the local news, the semi-truck hauling multiple vehicles was being inspected at the State Highway 70 checkpoint when agents noticed that a black Honda CRZ on the truck was “wrecked,” and “stood out” from the other vehicles.
An X-Ray machine was used to discover the narcotics.
The big rig and its trailer were then searched using an X-ray machine, uncovering nearly 15 pounds of heroin, valued at $1.2 million, and 4.7 pounds of cocaine, valued at $150,000, all inside the wrecked Honda.
The truck driver, whose name is not known, was then taken into custody and the drugs, seized.
Border Patrol has not released the exact reason for their inspection of that specific sedan and has described the Honda as “wrecked,” though in the pictures provided the vehicle appears intact.
