On January 5 the federal government declared reduced annual fees for commercial carriers required by law to participate in the UCR (Unified Carrier Registration) Plan. In addition to it, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), which has supervision of UCR published the final rulemaking in its official webpage. The new fees go into effect instantly.
What is UCR?
Being established in 2005, the UCR Act, requires motor carriers involved in interstate commerce, and other businesses subject to The Act, to submit yearly fees based on fleet size to increase funding for state highway motor carrier registration and safety programs.
Director of transportation at the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission said UCR Board Chair Avellino Gutierrez said today “We’re pleased with the outcome of FMCSA’s rulemaking on this matter. And pleased that could help deliver a cost reduction next year for our carrier partners”.
The UCR registration requirements’ state enforcement commonly begins January 1. As the 2018 registration has had to be canceled many months. However, the UCR Board is demanding states not to apply until 90 days after the fees go into execution that is not until April 5, 2018. The association of motor carrier enforcement agencies the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance has accepted this position.
