Lawmakers have chosen to advance with legislation drafting a hefty response to a weather incident. This left hundreds of drivers stuck on the I-95 for a whole day last month. Because of the snowstorms.

The Virginia Senate Transportation Committee advanced a Senate Bill of 706 by a popular vote of 10 to 5.

As a result, the bill would totally restrict CMVs to the right of any road with two lanes or more during peak winter weather conditions. Senator David Marsden believes that the legislation is to pass in the Senate by a very close margin. This is all a response to how the interstate had to shut down in the Fredricksburg area. That would leave plenty of people stranded for 24 hours or more starting on January 3rd. Plenty of people had been without any food, water, or even access to restrooms.

How Could Lawmakers Fix The Problem with Snowstorms?

Senator Marsden himself did say “Earlier this week we experienced severe weather conditions in Virginia, which caused large trucks to slide and jackknife and resulted in total blockages on I-95. I’m working on a bill to help avoid this problem in the future.”

Of course, a six semi-truck pileup has been made known on January 3rd, southbound on the I-95 towards Exit 136. Only 10 miles from Fredricksburg. A major hot-spot of snowstorms

Sadly, this did not thrill the neighbors. Some of them were so nervous, that they believed government agencies would be failing them with a lack of ability to properly communicate. The Virginia State Police, Department of Emergency Management, and even the VDOT have been hard at work compiling a comprehensive timeline of events to show what potentially could have led to the interstate closure stranding drivers.

The VDOT believes that the reports show “extreme weather conditions that combo with disabled vehicles and plenty of incidents as the primary factors contributing to the unprecedented blockages.
